At Forge Valley School & Sixth Form, the BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport enables students to develop an advanced understanding of the scientific, psychological and professional aspects of sport. Building on prior learning, students explore how the body performs, how athletes develop, and how professionals operate within the modern sports industry.

Students study topics including anatomy and physiology, fitness training and programming, sports psychology and professional development. They learn to analyse performance, interpret data, evaluate training programmes and apply theory to realistic sporting scenarios. Through coursework, research and assessment activities, students develop the independence, critical thinking and communication skills required for higher-level study and employment.

The course prepares students for progression into higher education, apprenticeships and careers within sport, coaching, teaching, physiotherapy, fitness, health and related industries. Alongside subject-specific knowledge, students develop valuable transferable skills including leadership, problem-solving, organisation and professional communication, helping them become confident and employable young adults.
