Music (KS3 AND KS4)
At Forge Valley School & Sixth Form, Music inspires pupils to develop their creativity, confidence and passion for musical expression. Through a broad and inclusive curriculum, pupils explore a wide range of musical styles, traditions and cultures while developing their skills as performers, composers and listeners. Music provides opportunities for all pupils to participate, regardless of prior experience, helping them discover and nurture their individual musical talents.
Across Key Stages 3 and 4, pupils develop a secure understanding of musical elements, performance techniques, composition and music theory. They learn to perform individually and collaboratively using a variety of instruments, voice and music technology, while exploring genres ranging from classical and world music to film, gaming, blues, reggae, popular and contemporary music. As pupils progress, they become increasingly confident in analysing music, using specialist vocabulary, creating original compositions and evaluating their own work and the work of others.
The Music curriculum develops a wide range of transferable skills including creativity, communication, teamwork, resilience and critical thinking. Through classroom learning, performance opportunities and extra-curricular activities, pupils build confidence, cultural awareness and self-expression while developing an appreciation for the role music plays in communities and society. These experiences provide a strong foundation for further musical study, creative industries and a wide range of future pathways.
