Design & Technology (KS3 AND KS4):
At Forge Valley School & Sixth Form, Design & Technology empowers pupils to become creative, resourceful and innovative problem-solvers. Through the study of Product Design and Food Technology, pupils develop the knowledge, practical skills and confidence needed to design, create and evaluate solutions that respond to real-world needs. The curriculum encourages pupils to think critically, work independently and understand how design and technology shape the world around them.
Across Key Stages 3 and 4, pupils explore a wide range of materials, manufacturing processes and technologies while developing practical skills in designing, making and evaluating products. In Product Design, pupils investigate materials, sustainability, engineering principles and user-centred design. In Food Technology, pupils develop an understanding of nutrition, food science, food provenance and hospitality while learning to prepare and cook a range of dishes safely and independently.
As pupils progress, they learn to balance creativity with technical knowledge, consider environmental and social impacts, and respond to design briefs through an iterative process of testing and improvement. These skills prepare pupils for further education, apprenticeships and careers in design, engineering, food science, hospitality and the wider creative industries.
