At Forge Valley School & Sixth Form, A Level Psychology gives students a fascinating insight into human behaviour, thought and experience. Through the study of psychological theories, research and real-world applications, students explore why people think, feel and behave the way they do, while developing a greater understanding of both themselves and the world around them. The course examines behaviour from biological, cognitive and social perspectives, encouraging students to consider a range of explanations for human actions and experiences.

Throughout the course, students investigate topics including social influence, memory, attachment, clinical psychology, biopsychology, gender, schizophrenia and forensic psychology. They also develop a strong understanding of psychological research methods, learning how evidence is gathered, analysed and evaluated. As students progress, they become increasingly skilled at applying psychological theories to real-life situations, interpreting data, assessing research and constructing well-reasoned arguments.

Psychology develops highly valued transferable skills including critical thinking, research, analysis, communication and problem-solving. Through independent study, practical research activities and engagement with contemporary issues, students learn to evaluate evidence, challenge assumptions and make informed judgements. The qualification provides an excellent foundation for higher education and careers in areas such as psychology, healthcare, nursing, education, human resources, marketing, business, law and many other professions where understanding people and behaviour is essential.
