School attendance is about more than just showing up—it’s about showing commitment to your future.

Being in school regularly helps pupils build knowledge, confidence, friendships, and the habits that lead to long-term success. It’s where they grow, explore new ideas, and feel part of a community.

We truly believe in our message: “You matter, your education matters.” Education has the power to change lives—but only if pupils are there to receive it.

We’re here to work with you, not against you, to understand what’s going on and support your child in getting the most out of their education.

The attendance policy can be found on the policies page: Policies

If Your Child is Absent:

If your child is absent you must contact us as soon as possible on the day of absence via one of the following methods:

  • Call Forge Valley school on 0114 234 8805

Reporting Absences:

  • Parents must call or email the school office before 8:30 AM to report an absence.
  • If a child is absent for more than three consecutive days, a doctor's note may be required for medical-related absences.
  • If you fail to report an absence for 3 days without communication a member of the attendance team will conduct a home visit
  • After 5 days with communication from home, a member of the attendance team will conduct a home visit

Our Expectations:

  • Pupils are expected to attend school Monday to Friday during regular school hours.
  • 8:40 AM - 3:00 PM arrive 5 minutes before school starts to ensure you are in form for 8:40am. School finished at 3:00pm unless they have P6 or extracurricular activities.
  • Parents/carers are responsible for ensuring their child arrives at school on time each day.
  • If a child will be absent, parents/carers must notify the school office by 8:30 AM.

Late Arrivals:

  • The school day begins at 8:40 AM. Children arriving after 8:40 AM are considered late.
  • Pupils must sign in late arrivals at the school attendance office before their form classroom.
  • Frequent lateness (5 or more occurrences per month) may lead to a parent meeting to discuss solutions for improving attendance.
