At Forge Valley School & Sixth Form, Early Childhood Development enables students to explore how children grow, learn and develop from birth through the early years. The course provides a comprehensive understanding of child development, health, wellbeing and education, helping students appreciate the importance of early experiences in shaping future outcomes.

Students investigate topics including physical, intellectual, emotional and social development, factors affecting children's growth, safeguarding, nutrition, play, learning and the role of professionals working with young children and families. They develop an understanding of how children develop at different rates and how supportive environments can promote positive outcomes.

The course develops transferable skills including observation, communication, research, analysis and reflection. Through the study of real-world scenarios and professional practice, students gain valuable insight into careers within childcare, teaching, education, health and early years services. It provides an excellent foundation for further study and employment within the early years and education sectors.
