MFL - Spanish (KS3 AND KS4)

At Forge Valley School & Sixth Form, Modern Foreign Languages enables pupils to develop the skills, confidence and cultural awareness needed to communicate in an increasingly interconnected world. Through the study of Spanish, pupils learn not only a new language but also gain a deeper understanding of different cultures, communities and perspectives, helping to broaden their horizons and prepare them for future opportunities.

Across Key Stages 3 and 4, pupils develop their knowledge through three key pillars: phonics, vocabulary and grammar. They learn to understand and respond to spoken and written language, communicate with increasing confidence, and express themselves through both speaking and writing. As pupils progress, they move from using individual words and simple sentences to producing more detailed and sophisticated language across a range of topics, while developing their understanding of different time frames and grammatical structures.

The curriculum promotes resilience, communication and cultural understanding. Through authentic materials, cultural experiences and opportunities to engage with native speakers, pupils develop valuable transferable skills that support learning across the curriculum and prepare them for further study, travel and future careers. By the end of Key Stage 4, pupils are equipped with the linguistic foundations and confidence to continue their language studies at A Level and beyond.
