At Forge Valley School & Sixth Form, A Level Sociology encourages students to explore how societies are organised, how they change over time and how social structures influence people's lives. Through the study of contemporary social issues, institutions and inequalities, students develop a deeper understanding of the relationship between individuals and society, while learning to question assumptions and evaluate different perspectives on the world around them.

Throughout the course, students investigate topics including education, families and households, crime and deviance, the media, sociological theories and research methods. They examine how factors such as class, gender, ethnicity and culture shape experiences and opportunities, while exploring key debates surrounding identity, power and social change. Students develop their ability to interpret evidence, analyse data and apply sociological theories to real-world issues and current affairs.

A Level Sociology develops highly transferable skills including critical thinking, research, analysis, evaluation and written communication. Through discussion, debate and independent study, students learn to construct balanced arguments, assess different viewpoints and make informed judgements about complex social issues. The course provides an excellent foundation for higher education and careers in areas such as law, education, social work, criminology, journalism, public services, business and the wider social sciences.
