Key Stage 4 Overview (Years 10–11, Ages 14–16)
During Key Stage 4, students focus on the subjects that will lead to their GCSE qualifications, while still following a strong core curriculum. Year groups are organised into two bands, helping us deliver teaching that meets the needs of every learner.
Curriculum Structure
Students study a combination of:
- 6 Core Subjects
- 3 Option Subjects
(chosen from the option blocks shown in the table below)
This blend allows pupils to keep their education broad while beginning to tailor their learning to their interests and future aspirations.
Humanities and the EBACC
All students must choose at least one humanity — History or Geography. For those wishing to follow the full EBACC pathway, Spanish is also required. We strongly encourage all students to study Spanish, as it enhances future opportunities and supports a well-rounded academic profile.
Option Bands
The Option Bands A, B and C listed below reflect the current structure for Years 10 and 11. These bands are finalised once student choices have been received, ensuring we create a timetable that best supports pupil preferences.
