Core Maths
Core Maths is intended for students who have passed GCSE Mathematics at grade 4 or better, but have not chosen to study A level Mathematics. The qualification would be taken over one year and is equivalent to an AS Level in terms of UCAS points.
The course will include a financial mathematics element and can help with other A level subjects, including:
- Science
- Geography
- Business studies
- Psychology
It also supports many further education qualifications that rely on being able to perform critical analysis and use statistics effectively, as well as providing useful skills used in many workplaces.
What are the entry requirements?
Five or more GCSEs Grade 9-4 or equivalent, with a minimum of Grade 4 in Maths.
What will I study?
The course is designed to maintain and develop real-life mathematics skills. What you study can be applied on a day-to-day basis , whether in further study or employment.
Topics include:
- Financial Maths
- Statistics & Probability
- Critical Analysis
- Modelling (spreadsheets)
- Estimation
How will I be assessed?
2 exams at the end of 1 year of study.
